Ahmedabad: In a first for Gujarat, 18-year-old Diya Thakore secured a silver medal in the Uneven Bars event at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics National Championship 2026 in Bhubaneswar, becoming the state’s first female gymnast to podium at the senior level.
She scored 10.533, including the highest execution score of 7.933 in the final, highlighting her technical precision. Odisha’s Tannu won gold, while Kerala’s Amani Dilshad took bronze. The achievement marks a significant comeback for Thakore, who returned to competition after an ACL and meniscus injury in 2024 followed by an 18-month rehabilitation.
Training at CN Sports Academy, Ahmedabad, under coach Harish Chandera, Thakore’s performance comes as Gujarat’s women’s team finished sixth overall, signalling growing momentum for gymnastics in the state.
