LADAKH, INDIA: Towering mountains, thin air, unforgiving roads, and temperatures that test human endurance—this is the landscape where Indian-American actor and producer Jay Patel recently completed one of the most demanding motorcycle journeys in the world.
Patel successfully rode to Umling La Pass (19,024 feet), recognized as the world’s highest motorable road, as part of a Himalayan expedition that combined adventure, endurance, and a unique message of global peace and unity.
While Patel is widely known for his work in films including Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Bhuj: The Pride of India, Torbaaz, and Milan Talkies, this journey revealed another side of the actor-producer—an adventurer willing to push beyond comfort zones in pursuit of a meaningful cause.
Through the Heart of the Himalayas
The expedition covered some of the most spectacular and challenging terrain in India. Beginning from Delhi and moving through Leh, Hanle, and the remote frontier landscapes of eastern Ladakh, the riders navigated steep mountain roads, rocky trails, freezing winds, and oxygen-starved altitudes.
At nearly 20,000 feet above sea level, even basic physical activity becomes a challenge. Riders often face headaches, fatigue, and breathing difficulties due to reduced oxygen levels. Yet for Patel and his team, the hardships became part of a larger mission.
“The mountains teach you humility. Up here, differences disappear. People help each other regardless of nationality, language, religion, or background. That’s the message we wanted this journey to represent,” Patel said.

Patel was joined by fellow riders Abhishek Mehta, Ashish Thesia, Aishwarya Gulati, and Hardik Vadodaria. Together, they transformed a demanding motorcycle expedition into a symbolic ride promoting peace, friendship, and human connection.
The team believes that adventure travel has the power to bring people together, encouraging cooperation and understanding beyond cultural or geographical boundaries.
As the motorcycles climbed higher into the barren Himalayan landscape, the journey became less about reaching a destination and more about embracing resilience, teamwork, and mutual support.

Patel credited local supporters and community members for helping make the expedition successful, emphasizing that the warmth of the people matched the grandeur of the landscape. “Every person we met reminded us that kindness has no borders. Ladakh gave us memories that will last a lifetime,” he said.

For many travelers, Umling La represents the ultimate riding dream. Reaching the summit requires careful preparation, mental strength, and respect for nature’s unpredictability.
For Patel, however, the greatest reward was not conquering a mountain pass but sharing a message. “If this journey encourages even a few people to choose understanding over division and peace over conflict, then it has achieved its purpose,” he said.
